This article explains how to find and interpret the proficiency bands in Scholastic Literacy Pro.
This article is for TEACHERS. 🍏📝
Proficiency bands allow you to determine the level of performance students must demonstrate to meet certain reading performance standards for the texts at their year/grade level.
The Benchmarks Screen is where teachers can view and administrators can edit the Scholastic Literacy Pro proficiency bands.
Only administrators can change the benchmark proficiency bands applied to a school or class.
Finding the proficiency bands
To view the proficiency bands, navigate to the Benchmarks tab when logged in to Scholastic Literacy Pro.
To navigate to a specific class, use the search bar or the links on the left-hand side of your screen.
Understanding proficiency bands
The four proficiency bands are:
- Advanced: Students scoring in this range exhibit superior performance
when reading text that is year/grade-level appropriate.
- Proficient: Students scoring in this range exhibit competent (“year/gradelevel”) performance when reading text that is year/grade-level appropriate.
- Basic: Students scoring in this range exhibit minimally competent (“below
year/grade-level”) performance when reading year/grade-level appropriate
- Below Basic: Students scoring in this range do not exhibit minimally
competent performance when reading year/grade-level appropriate text.
Use the Reading Proficiency Report to track which proficiency band each student falls into, compared to the rest of the class.
