Using notes and highlights

Notes allow you to mark up passages of text, where you can have additional annotations to supplement the text. Highlights enable you to keep track of sections of text that you feel are important in a book. To learn how to see all your notes and highlights in one place, click here.

The process for creating notes and highlights will be slightly different across the various platforms: iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS.

Making a highlight and/or note

iOS and Android

To make a highlight and note on iOS and Android:

  1. Tap and hold a particular word, sentence or paragraph, and move your finger over the text that you wish to highlight.
  2. Use the colour selector to personalise or colour-code the highlight.
  3. Tap on the highlighted text to change the colour and to add a note to the highlighted text.

Windows and macOS

To make a highlight and note using Windows or macOS:

  1. Use the mouse to click and drag over the text that you wish to highlight.
  2. Then click on the ‘T’ icon to add the highlight.
  3. Use the colour selector to personalise or colour-code the highlight.
  4. To add a note, click on the highlighted text and then click on the ‘Note’ feature.

Deleting a note and/or highlight

On iOS, tap on the highlighted text and select the ‘Delete’ icon to remove the highlight and note.

On Android, hold down on the highlighted text and tap the ‘Delete’ icon to remove the highlight and note.

On Windows and macOS, click on the highlighted text and then click on the ‘Remove/Delete’ icon to remove the highlight and note.
