Patron purchasing allows you to access books in your institution’s digital library, even when it means buying new copies. The process is simple and managed by your institution.
How it works
- Once the learner (patron) has searched for a book, they'll be presented with varying access options
- Access options based on availability
Depending on the book’s status, different options will be shown:- Available now: If the book is already in the library and not checked out, it can be read immediately.
- All copies checked out: If all copies are currently on loan, starting another checkout will automatically purchase an extra copy.
- If there’s not enough credit, the librarian will receive a purchase request, and the user will be notified and added to the waitlist.
- Available now: If the book is already in the library and not checked out, it can be read immediately.
- Automatic ordering
Any new checkout that requires purchasing a copy automatically generates an order. This order is recorded and visible to your institution’s finance team. - Instant access
Once the order is processed, the book will be assigned to the user's account and can be read or downloaded immediately.
Things to know
The user won’t be charged - the institution covers the cost.
Purchases are automatically tracked in the system.
If a book isn’t listed, support can help you request it.
