Learn how to use AI OK in Engage to assess whether student writing may have been influenced by AI. This article guides teachers through accessing the tool, submitting text, and interpreting the results to support academic integrity and improve feedback.

What is AI OK?

AI OK is a writing analysis tool built into Engage that helps you identify if a piece of writing may have been influenced or generated by AI. As a teacher, you can use this tool to evaluate student submissions and guide academic integrity conversations.

It analyzes elements such as:

  • Writing complexity vs expected grade level

  • Tone and fluency

  • Cultural or regional markers

  • Structural patterns often found in AI-generated content

Note: AI OK works best with a stable internet connection.

Step 1: Log in to Engage

Step 2: Open the AI OK section

  • From the left-hand menu, select AI OK.

Step 3: Paste the Student’s Text

  • Enter or paste your block of text into the textbox you would like to have assessed.

Step 4: Review the Results

You’ll receive a breakdown of the following writing’s characteristics:

  • Vocabulary level vs grade

  • Fluency and tone analysis

  • AI-related patterns (e.g. high structure similarity)

  • A simulated perplexity test

This report can guide you in determining:

  • Whether to follow up with the student

  • If the writing style aligns with typical human writing

  • Where support may be needed for improving fluency or originality

You’ll see a clear explanation of each point, like this:

AI OK only works online thus requires an internet connection when in use. Previous assessments and queries are saved, all you will need to do is scroll up on the history of the thread.
